An interesting book just came out. Defeat Cancer (also available on Amazon) is a compilation of 15 informal interviews with integrative and naturopathic physicians who treat cancer. You can read a free sample chapter out of the book here.

If you are reading this present article that means you probably already “get it”. By “get it”, I mean you probably already understand that there is a day and night difference between integrative practitioners and mainstream practitioners. Patients that get integrative treatment for chronic diseases tend to get well. Patients that get allopathic treatment for chronic diseases…don’t. It is that simple really. And it turns out to be no different with cancer.

The results with mainstream treatments such as chemotherapy are horrific. Oncologists may be “nice people”, but in general, they don’t have a clue what they are doing when it comes to treating cancer. If they did, their results would not be so unacceptable. In my own observation and estimation, if a person gets treatment from an experienced integrative practitioner while an operable cancer is still in its early stages and BEFORE any chemotherapy or radiation has damaged the body, then there is somewhere between a 90% and a 100% chance of achieving indefinite remission. Oncologists can’t even dream of this. Many assume that such results are fraudulent, don’t want to hear about the evidence, and then stick their heads in the sand. They sometimes even have the nerve to say that such “unproven” treatments are dangerous and warn people to stay away from them instead of truthfully saying “I don’t know about those treatments”. I don’t mean to beat up on oncologists, but these are unpleasant truths we cannot afford to dance around or be “politically correct” about any longer. Hundreds of thousands of Americans are unnecessarily dying each year because of the current ignorant system of “medicine”.

People need to know what to do about cancer BEFORE getting it. Once you get it, there is a huge chance you will be pressured by doctors and even family to get harmful and ineffective treatments. People need to make up their minds to go the integrative route in advance so that they can withstand the societal pressure to the contrary. Defeat Cancer is one nice book that introduces you to real doctors, real patients, and some real results. It can help remove the notion in your mind that society will try to impose on you that there is no other way but “poison” (chemotherapy), “slash” (surgery), and “burn” (radiation). It may help you get an idea about how to dialogue better with family and physicians when the dreaded cancer diagnosis comes along. Some integrative practitioners are certainly better than others, and this book will help you learn how to probe practitioners and see if they are right for you.

If you get cancer, I suggest calling around and asking questions to the staff of any nearby integrative clinics to see if they treat cancer, and if their approach suits you. Some places to search by ZIP code for local practitioners that may treat cancer with integrative means are:

IPTForCancer.Com
(A listing a practitioners that utilize Insulin Potentiation Therapy – a vastly superior and safe form of chemotherapy. Doctors that know this therapy almost certainly know about many others.)

Naturopathic.org
(American Association of Naturopathic Physicians – a listing of ND’s)

ACAM.org
(American College for Advancement in Medicine – a listing of integrative MD’s)

Oncamp.org
(Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians – a listing of ND’s that focus on cancer)

The author of Defeat Cancer, Connie Strasheim, has written several other books and maintains a website called LymeBytes. Like myself, she is also a chronic Lyme disease survivor.

There are other good books on cancer out there, but I am going to publish one in the coming years that fills a significant void. Namely, one that will show people how to get the best results that they can on their own, and have it be backed it up with real science. Yes, that is sort of taboo, because no one wants to encourage people to “do it themselves” (so such a book is for “informational purposes only”), but we have to face the fact if people start “waking up” to the insanity of the current system in large numbers, there simply are not enough integrative practitioners to help them all. There are many self-help books out there, but sadly, those treatments are rarely as effective as enthusiasts claim. Many such treatments need to be used synergystically to have the best chance of beating cancer.

There are 4 ways in which internal bleeding is addressed (cancer, menstruation, injury, hemorrhoids, varicose veins, resulting anemia, etc):

Physical intervention such as a surgical procedure.

Astringents: These are substances that can constrict blood vessels and tissue and reduce the blood flow to areas that are bleeding, thereby reducing the bleeding. I am not totally sure how these differ from “vasoconstrictors”.

Vascular permeability inhibitors: These are substances that structurally reinforce the integrity of the walls of blood vessels in order to make them less permeable.

Coagulants: These are substances that cause blood clotting to seal the source of the bleeding.

Tackling internal bleeding does not seem like something that you want to mess around with, without consulting with a doctor. Misuse of coagulants for example could theoretically cause too much clotting and result in a stroke. Also, misuse of astringents might cause uncontrolled high blood pressure. Nonetheless, there is quite an impressive array of natural options for internal bleeding.

But first, here are 4 different factors that can accelerate the regeneration of blood and help in the treatment of anemia resulting from internal bleeding (or other types of anemia for that matter).

Lactoferrin

There is so much to say about lactoferrin, that I had to write a separate article. It increases the absorption and utilization of iron from both food and supplements, greatly enhancing the treatment of iron deficiency anemia. It also has many profound immuno-modulation and anticancer effects. It also may reduce the vascularity and blood flow to tumors, possibly improving internal bleeding due to cancer.

Liposomal Vitamin B-12

As much as 39% of the population might be deficient in vitamin B-12, which is required in the production of red blood cells.

Iron Supplements

Currently, there are only 2 iron products I like a lot. Most are bad due to poor absorption, stomach irritation, and constipation.

Liposomal Iron

There is a product called IronSmart from Canada, which is a liposomal iron supplement. Liposomes cause nearly 100% absorption of the iron, which totally eliminates the intestinal side effects associated with iron supplements, as well as makes it more effective at regenerating blood.

Due to the fact that liposomes can selectively target cancer, this may be not the best iron supplement to use if the internal bleeding is caused by cancer. The next iron supplement should be considered in these cases. In fact, I think I like the next iron supplement better even if you don’t have cancer.

Ferretts IPS liquid iron

Pharmics has studies show that this gets absorbed gradually and does not result in spikes in serum iron, which makes your body more able to effectively use the iron. They cite clinical studies that show that there are no side effects for about 94% of people. That is much better than ordinary iron tablets to begin with, and whatever digestive issues may remain , I am confident can be handled by taking lactoferrin at the same time. My only concern about this product is that it’s delivery mechanism uses a special arrangement of casein proteins. I am not sure how much casein is in the supplement, or whether or not this causes any issues with people who are highly allergic to casein. However, they report that only 6% of people have any side effects at all.

Amino Acids

Amino acids have been shown to increase hemoglobin production quite drastically (at least in dogs). But amino acids are also used in humans for this purpose. It is simply providing the building blocks of hemoglobin protein.

Now here are the natural options for actually healing the source of a person’s internal bleeding:

Cayenne

“After internal scoping of prostate and bladder, urologist hit a blood vessel in the prostate which he cauterized during procedure. Very very significant Bleeding started again a week later with clots as long as 4in. Searching the internet found cayenne pepper as a possible remedy. Put 1 tsp, of the same stuff I use to season salmon before smoking it, in a cup of tap water and drank it UGHHHH! But within 15 minutes the (2 week long) bleeding had finally stopped!!!!” (More info)

“Once a child was shot in the abdomen; a bullet hit the spine, ricocheted, and made a second wound leaving the body. One of Dr. Christopher’s herbal students living next door heard the shot and raced over. She knew that the parents were not home and that the children, ages eight and four, should not be shooting guns. When she arrived, the eight-year-old was gushing blood out of both his sides. They had been playing cops and robbers with their father’s gun which she found under a pillow. She ran to the cabinet and mixed a tablespoonful of cayenne in a glass of water. She then poured it down the boy’s throat and called the ambulance which was 18 miles away. By the time you could count to ten, cayenne will stop the bleeding. The emergency room attendant said that the boy would probably bleed to death, being that the distance was so great. The ambulance arrived and rushed the child to the Primary Children’s Hospital, 18 miles away. When the child arrived at the hospital, he was the center of attention, not because his condition was so serious, but because he was chatting a mile a minute- and there was no bleeding.” (More info)

It is interesting that cayenne is also used as a blood thinner. And capsaicin has an animal study that shows it kills cancer: (More info)

Bilberry

“It contains anthocyanins that are useful for blood vessels and capillaries. The anthocyanins regenerates and repairs leaky or broken blood vessels and capillaries, it also improves the production of mucopolysaccharides that aid in synthesize collagen which in turn strengthen the walls of capillaries. Dietary supplements are available” (More info)

“Bilberry is used in Europe before surgery to prevent excessive bleeding and hemorrhaging. A recent German medical journal reports bilberry effective in reducing excessive bleeding by 71% (Lietti). Bilberry also thins the blood by inhibiting platelet adhesion (Bottecchia). This combination of actions
1.	improving capillary strength,
2.	reduction of capillary leakage, and
3.	blood thinning
Results in improved blood flow and may reduce clotting-related health risks.” (More info)

“The antiseptic and astringent qualities may also help in cases of periodontitis, sore throat, laryngitis; and astringency is said to be beneficial for hemorrhoids and internal bleeding.” (More info)

“Bilberry is used specifically to prevent and treat fragile capillaries and capillaries which leak either fluid or blood into the tissues.” (More info)

Butcher’s broom

“Recent tests by German and French doctors indicated that butcher’s broom root lessens post-operative thrombosis; and also showed definite and measurable relief for hemorrhoid and varicose vein sufferers.” (More info)

“Chemicals in butcher’s broom attach to and strengthen certain parts of blood vessels, notably collagen. As a result, butcher’s broom tightens blood vessels, which helps to keep blood circulating throughout the body. It also acts to improve the flexibility of blood vessel walls. Therefore, less blood leaks out of weak, stretched vessels such as those that cause hemorrhoids.” (More info)

“The active ingredients in the rhizome are saponins that contain the aglycones ruscogenin and neuroscogenin and the associated spirostanol and furostanol glycosides. The receptors that cause vasocontraction are known as adrenoreceptors, these receptors can be selectively stimulated by butcher’s broom extract to tighten the veins and improve the return of blood. When introduced intravenously, butcher’s broom was noted to constrict venules (small veins that feed the main veins but not arterioles (the small arteries than feed the capillaries). Hence blood vessels can be selectively treated, and the effect on isolated blood vessels was enhanced by heating.” (More info)

Bioflavanoids: Hesperidin, Rutin, quercetin, diosmin (modified hesperidin), Hawthorn (contains bioflavanoids)

“Hesperidin and other bioflavonoids have been shown to reduce the permeability of blood vessels and make them less fragile. Most of the studies in humans have been carried out with a particular product that contains hesperidin and diosmin, another bioflavonoid, in a fixed 1:9 ratio.” (More info)

Grape Seed Extract:

“Dr. Masquelier’s work extracting compounds from plants started with peanuts in 1948 before moving on to grapes. He found that when he fed laboratory rats the new substance, it was absorbed rather quickly, particularly influencing blood vessels and doubling their strength in a matter of hours” (More info)

Yunnan Baiyao

This is a TCM formula famous for being carried by the Vietcong to stop bleeding during the Vietnam War. One veterinarian claims to successfully use it in dogs to stop bleeding cancerous tumors: They suggest stopping anti-coagulants while on this. This is recommended on a short term basis, so this should not be taken long. This sounds like an option that would need to be handled carefully. (More info)(More info)

Yarrow plant stem cells

Plant stem cells can only be ordered by a health professional. Plant stem cells contain all the phytochemicals of the adult plant, but in higher quantities. Yarrow contains phytochemicals that have killed cancer in vivo: (More info)

The stem cells themselves can help heal damaged tissue. Yarrow has also been used as a remedy for internal bleeding, so those responsible phytochemicals will also be present in higher quantities.

Plant stem cells are also said to have many numerous systemic effects that are beneficial in cancer.

White oak bark

“White Oak Bark is a powerful astringent that has been used for centuries to control diarrhea, internal and external bleeding, excessive menstrual flow, nosebleeds and hemorrhoids.” (More info)

I should also mention that oak is available in plant stem cell form.

Horse chestnut

“The active ingredients in horse chestnut appear to be a group of chemicals called saponins, of which aescin is considered the most important. Aescin appears to reduce swelling and inflammation.1,31 It’s not exactly clear how aescin might work, but theories include “sealing” leaking capillaries, improving the elastic strength of veins, preventing the release of enzymes (known as glycosaminoglycan hydrolases) that break down collagen and open holes in capillary walls, decreasing inflammation, and blocking other various physiological events that lead to vein damage.” (More info)

Reduces leaky blood vessels (More info)

Liposomal Vitamin C

“Severe vitamin C deficiency (scurvy) is a well-recognized but uncommon cause of increased capillary fragility. Whether vitamin C supplementation can help capillary fragility in people who do not have scurvy is less clear” (More info)

Liposomal vitamin C is also probably one the best stand alone cancer killers there is in my opinion.

Liposomal Vitamin K

“Control mechanisms for the coagulation cascade exist, because uncontrolled clotting may be as life threatening as uncontrolled bleeding. Vitamin K-dependent coagulation factors are synthesized in the liver. Consequently, severe liver disease results in lower blood levels of vitamin K-dependent clotting factors and an increased risk of uncontrolled bleeding (hemorrhage)” (More info)

Vitamin K also has successful in vivo cancer studies: (More info) (More info)

Vitamin K is actually used as a mainstream treatment for internal bleeding. Because it can increase systemic clotting, it has to be implemented carefully. I think a low dose (say 100mcg a day) in liposomal form (already available on the market) could target the vitamin K to the site of the bleeding, and avoid most of the systemic clotting effects. Cancer therapy and emergency treatment for internal bleeding use IV doses ranging in the many milligrams.

Shepard’s Purse

“Shepherd’s purse has also been used internally to treat cases of blood in the urine and bleeding from the gastrointestinal tract, such as with bleeding ulcers.

An astringent agent, shepherd’s purse constricts blood vessels, thereby reducing blood flow. Shepherd’s purse is also thought to cause the uterine muscle to contract, which also helps reduce bleeding.” (More info)

It is also said to improve blood clotting. It contains vitamin K, which may exaplain its effect.

Horsetail

“Its toning and astringent action make it of value in the treatment of incontinence and bed-wetting in children. It may be applied to such conditions as urethritis or cystitis with haematuria, reducing haemorrhage and healing wounds thanks to the high silica content. This local astringent and anti-haemorrhagic effect explains the application of horsetail to such conditions as bleeding from the mouth, nose and vagina, its use to check diarrhoea, dysentery and bleeding from the bowel, and for slow-healing wounds, chilblains and conjunctivitis.” (More info)

Lagochilus inebrians Bunge

“It is employed as an infusion or tincture as an antihemorrhagic for its hemostatic effects, to reduce permeability of blood vessels and aid in coagulation of the blood… The most effective haemostatic activity appeared in various bleedings: uterus, haemorrhoidal, nasal (epistaxis), lung, and for hemorrhagic diathesis.

Clinical efficiency of the extract and tinctures in various bleedings the following data was observed, study on 300 patients accepting this preparation, good effect has been seen in 193 (64 %), satisfactory – in 58 (19 %), weak – in 29 (10 %), no effect in 20 (7 %) patients…

…Special Data on clinical efficiency of this preparation in hemorrhagic diathesis and hemophilia. have been proven by the tests which have been carried out in Leningrad institute of hemotransfusy and in the Central institute of hematology and blood transfusion. Though these data were formulated, from experiments, on a small amount of patients, they are worthy, taking into consideration the difficulties arising with treating patients with these disease.” (More info)

This is also traditionally used by native peoples as an intoxicant. That (and potential clotting) suggest this should be used at least in much lower doses than required for intoxication.

Stinging Nettle

“Bleeding in any area of the body is treatable by the strong astringent action of the nettle. Nettle in the form of an herbal infusion, as a tincture or in the fresh juice form can be applied externally as a topical measure for the treatment of various cuts and wounds to stanch the bleeding, it can be used in cases of hemorrhoids, it can stanch nose bleeds, and it can also be used as a soothing and healing salve against various burns and scald injuries. The herbal remedies made from the nettle have also been extensively used as a remedy for stemming bleeding during heavy menstrual periods, and paradoxically also in inducing bleeding during delayed or absent periods in women….

…The anti-hemorrhagic actions of the nettle is also used effectively in many forms of herbal medicine, excessive bleeding can be stanched by its astringent action, in this form the herb can stop bleeding arising either from wounds, or due to impairment in the reproductive system such as to diminish heavy bleeding occurring during menstrual disorders.” (More info)

Also used as a natural blood thinner.

Geranium

“Early Africans drank teas made with the leaves of geranium to cure stomach upset and stop internal bleeding. Furthermore they believed that the plant can eliminate certain kinds of cancer and mend broken bones.” (More info)

“• An astringent and styptic; decreases clotting time in external wounds.
• Especially for bleeding in the digestive tract, including stomach ulcers,
bleeding and diarrhea in irritable bowel syndrome or Crohn’s disease.
• May also be used in excess menstrual or vaginal bleeding.” (More info)

Lesser Periwinkle

“Lesser periwinkle is employed as an astringent and blood-staunching herb. Its astringency makes it a useful mouthwash for sore throats, gingivitis, and canker sores. Its staunching ability is effective against internal bleeding, heavy menstrual bleeding, and nosebleeds. Since vincamine was discovered in the leaves, lesser periwinkle has been used to treat arteriosclerosis and for dementia due to insufficient blood flow to the brain.” (More info)

The FDA lists this herb as “unsafe” though others disagree. In general, the FDA’s decisions are about as accurate as a coin flip.

Lady’s Mantle

“Lady’s mantle has coagulant properties, which help to treat bleeding and discharge. Herbalist John Lust notes that lady’s mantle infusion can relieve internal bleeding” (More info)

“Lady’ Mantle is also used for a number of women’s ailments especially menstrual problems, chronic infection and discharges. It can be used for vaginal discharges, itching, cervicitis and urethritis. It is a progesteronic herb that controls menstrual bleeding and can be used as a treatment for excessive menstruation, intermenstrual bleeding, postpartum bleeding and menopausal flooding. Lady’s mantle can be used to treat symptoms of progesterone deficiency such as PMS, painful menstruation, menopausal symptoms with bleeding and breast swelling and to heal lesions after pregnancy. Generally, Lady’s Mantle is the herb of choice for haemmorhage and bleeding in general and taken internally as an infusion it is said to be excellent to stop all bleedings.” (More info)

Callicarpa leaf

“The whole plant is analgesic, antiphlogistic and haemostatic[147]. a decoction is used in the treatment of haemoptysis, haematemesis, nose bleed, haematuria, traumatic bleeding, traumatic injuries and rheumatoid arthritis[147]. The whole plant can be crushed for external applications to wounds[147].” (More info)

Supercritical Gotu kola

“Due mostly to the actions of asiaticoside and madecassoside that it contains, gotu kola may prevent, delay and treat a condition known as chronic venous insufficiency. This occurs when valves in the veins that carry blood back to the heart are weak or damaged and blood collects in the veins of the legs. This collection of blood can lead to varicose veins, spider veins, or sores on the legs. More serious results can include blood clots in the legs. Asiaticoside and madecassoside may help keep veins and other blood vessels from leaking. Because it strengthens the walls of blood vessels, gotu kola may also be effective for slowing retinopathy, the gradual break down of the retina in the eyes. It may also help to relieve hemorrhoids. These same effects are thought to strengthen the lining of the gastrointestinal tract, making gotu kola potentially useful for treating ulcers.” (More info)

This supplement is available in “supercritical extract” which concentrates many of the fat and water soluble extracts. These soluble extracts will make this an especially effective choice for liposomal encapsulation.

Liposomal Curcumin

Curcumin stops PAF, which is the platelet-activating factor. This in turn seal leaky blood vessels, in part by causing the production of fibrous tissue. This is especially beneficial in those who have diabetes and suffer from loss of protein through the kidneys. (More info)

This is also available in a supercritical turmeric product – especially valuable for liposomal encapsulation. Premade liposomal Curcumin products are also on the market.

Angiopoetin-1

“The protein, known as angiopoietin-1, or Ang1, can restore leaky vessels to normal, block the effects of substances that make vessels leaky, and complement the action of another natural blood vessel growth stimulant known as VEGF, researchers at UC San Francisco and Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. report in the December 24 issue of Science. (VEGF stands for vascular endothelial growth factor, the focus of current clinical trials to increase blood vessel growth in limbs and hearts with inadequate blood supplies.)” (More info)

“Thus, Ang-1 could potentially serve as an antineoplastic or anti-permeability agent for patients with metastatic colorectal cancer.” (More info)

I don’t think this is available as a treatment.

Plantain

“Fifty patients with bleeding internal hemorrhoids are studied and randomized in two groups. Patients in the study group were treated with a commercially available preparation of Plantago Ovata and those in the control group were treated with a placebo…Addition of dietary fiber may improve internal bleeding hemorrhoids although with no immediate effect. Fiber addition should be ensured in patients who refuse invasive treatment, waiting for a more defined form of treatment, or with contraindications.” (More info)

Goldenseal

“Due to its effects on blood vessel tone it has been used to control the bleeding of excessive menstruation and other internal bleeding.” (More info)

Agrimony

Chinese herb used for internal bleeding. (More info)

Caper bush

Not much info except claims that it stops internal bleeding. It is said to contain vitamin K, which may be the reason. (More info)

Lactoferrin is a protein that can be purified from milk or produced “recombinantly”. Human colostrum (“first milk”) has the highest concentration, followed by human milk, then cow milk. Lactoferrin is one of the components of the immune system of the body. It has antimicrobial properties and is part of the innate defense, mainly at mucoses. [...]

In particular, lactoferrin provides antibacterial activity to human infants.

Aside from its general roles in immune-modulation and infectious disease, this article summarizes possible potential for its use as a natural cancer therapy and for the treatment of anemia. Most of its notable properties ultimately stem from the fact that it is a chelator of iron.

Lactoferrin and Cancer

“It decreases the availability of iron in neoplastic cells, depriving them of an iron supply (Khan et al. 2001; Weinberg 2001).” (more info)

(Comment: Many cancer patients have anemia as well. Lactoferrin may be twice as desirable in these cases because of its usefulness in both conditions. Supplementing with iron to correct the anemia may perhaps encourage undue accumulation of iron in the area of the cancer. Lactoferrin may effectively protect against some of this.)

“Lf(+)-fed mice bearing either EL-4, Lewis lung carcinoma or B16 melanoma tumours completely rejected their tumours within 3 weeks following a single injection of either paclitaxel, doxorubicin, epirubicin or fluorouracil, whereas mice fed the control diet were resistant to chemotherapy. Lf(+) had to be fed to mice for more than 2 weeks prior to chemotherapy to be wholly effective in eradicating tumours from all mice, suggesting that it acts as a competence factor. It significantly reduced tumour vascularity and blood flow, and increased antitumour cytotoxicity, tumour apoptosis and the infiltration of tumours by leukocytes…In summary, bLf is a potent natural adjuvant and fortifying agent for augmenting cancer chemotherapy, but needs to be saturated with iron to be effective.” (more info)

(Comment: This study refers to “iron-saturated lactoferrin” which they denote as “Lf(+)”. This is not technically what you get in the store. Lactoferrin is believed to have better immuno-modulating effects when any bound iron that may naturally occur in it is removed. Because of this, most supplement companies that sell “lactoferrin” are actually selling what is called “apolactoferrin”, which means “lactoferrin that has been processed to remove all the iron”. “Apolactoferrin” may have between 4% and 12% “iron saturation” according to different sources. Unmodified lactoferrin may have a ballpark 5% to 40% iron-saturation according to different sources. “Iron-saturated lactoferrin” or “holo-lactoferrin” means there is close to 100% iron saturation. Not only does holo-lactoferrin have significant anticancer effect, but reducing blood flow might incidentally help anemia in cancer cases that are caused by bleeding tumors.)

There is only one commercially available source of holo-lactoferrin that I could find, and it is in a product called “Lactoferrin Gold 1.8″. This product contains 80% apo-lactoferrin and 20% holo-lactoferrin.

I am too cheap to purchase the study to see exactly how much holo-lactoferrin the mice had to be fed, so if you know please tell me.

“Liposomalization of lactoferrin enhanced its anti-tumoral effects on melanoma cells” (more info)

(Comment: This study used apolactoferrin, which is the common commercially available kind. This confirms that any type of lactoferrin may have anticancer effect. In this study, liposomes were believed to have protected the lactoferrin from degredation, as well as secure intracellular delivery. For a primer on what liposomes are, and why they might greatly improve the effectiveness of many supplements, read this article on liposomal ubiquinol. Right now the only commerically available way I know of to get liposomal lactoferrin is in a liposomal colostrum product. Colostrum has many ingredients, one of which is lactoferrin. The product I am speaking of contains roughly 1.5% lactoferrin by mass. If one were to consume a total of 4,000mg of colostrum powder a day (1 tsp twice a day), this would contribute about 60mg of liposomal lactoferrin to the body. However, depending on the process used to liposomally encapsulate a material, different size liposomes are produced. Liposomes beyond a certain size cannot be absorbed directly and must first release their contents in the digestive tract. In these cases, no liposomal lactoferrin would actually circulate systemically. I do not have any info on the size distrubution of the liposomes in the colostrum product mentioned above.)

Lactoferrin and Anemia

“A study published in July 2009 examined the effects of lactoferrin versus an iron supplement (ferrous sulfate) in a group of pregnant women with anemia. This is an especially sensitive population. The risk of digestive complications and the added importance of adherence to treatment is particularly important during this time. 100 expectant mothers participated in the study. Half received 100 mg of lactoferrin twice daily, while the remainder were given 520 mg of ferrous sulfate once a day (providing about 100 mg of actual iron). (4)
•	After 30 days of treatment, both groups demonstrated similar increases in serum ferritin, hemoglobin and iron.
•	However, the group receiving the ferrous sulfate reported significantly greater rates of abdominal pain and constipation.” (more info 1, more info 2)

(Comment: Aside from making the iron supplements you take more absorbable (which removes the side effects of iron supplements), lactoferrin also ensures you absorb more iron from natural sources in your food. This is presumably the reason why lactoferrin can effectively treat anemia in these women who weren’t even taking any iron supplements.) The product used in this study is called “Lattoglobina”. It has an iron saturation of 17%.

“That study followed 300 women and employed the same dosage of both iron and lactoferrin (520 mg daily vs. 100 mg twice daily). This 30 day trial actually found that lactoferrin outperformed ferrous sulfate by increasing values of hemoglobin and “total serum iron” to a greater extent. Once again, lactoferrin was superior in that it didn’t provoke adverse reactions.” (more info 1, more info 2)

(Comment: This study used 30% iron saturated lactoferrin, which is also not quite what you get in stores.)

According to Dr. Leo Galland, “The dietary supplement lactoferrin, a protein derived from milk, binds to iron and increases its absorption” (more info)

“Lactoferrin enhances iron absorption, and at the same time protects the body from the negative, oxidative effects of excess iron. It can decrease or eliminate the side effects of nausea and constipation caused by iron supplementation. Recent research suggests that lactoferrin may also have beneficial effects in regulating the immune system, as well as anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and viral, and antioxidant effects…

…It only takes about 20 mg of lactoferrin, taken with the iron, to reduce or eliminate the side effects.” (more info)

Miscellaneous Information on Lactoferrin

“Lactoferrin does not remove iron from the body itself, and over time degrades to release the iron back into the body.” (more info)

(Comment: These last two quotes are a little contradictory, and leaves it unclear whether lactoferrin has any potential use in the treatment of excess iron (called “hemochromatosis”). It could perhaps even be detrimental. There are however other natural options for iron overload, which will be a future topic on this site.)

“In human milk, lactoferrin is a major whey protein, with 6-8 g/l in colostrum and 2-4 g/l in the milk. Bovine colostrum and milk are much lower in lactoferrin content (~1 g/l and 0.2g/l for colostrum and milk respectively)… Lactoferrin is folded into two globular units, each capable of binding up to 1.4 mg iron/g of protein.” (more info)

(Comment: The amount of total iron that can possibly be bound to physiological doses of lactoferrin is insignificant with regards to the usual doses of iron prescribed in the treatment of anemia. This leads one to speculate that when iron is used very efficiently, the body may only require very small amounts in order to thrive. Perhaps under regular circumstances, the body may be quite inefficient in its utilization of iron.)

“That means a 20 gram scoop of high quality whey protein isolate provides about 100mg of lactoferrin. (more info)”

Overall Impressions

Regarding anemia, it seems a good idea to take lactoferrin supplements (most commercially available supplements are apolactoferrin) with iron. Between 20mg and 100mg with each dose of iron is probably appropriate. It is probably preferable to get lactoferrin that is not apolactoferrin, as some manufacturers do claim their supplement effectively treats excess iron (which is the opposite of what is wanted). Since information is conflicting on this point, it is best only to take apolactoferrin with meals and with iron supplements (which is what one would do anyway for anemia), and not on empty stomach. Unfortunately, most manufacturers do not specify whether their product has had the iron removed or not. I do know that at least Life Extension and Jarrow brands are apolactoferrin. So for anemia, perhaps avoid those two brands and any that specifically say “aplolactoferrin”, “low iron”, etc. At least that way you will have a chance at getting unaltered lactoferrin. It seems doubtful that apolactoferrin would end up posing any problem, seeing as how people are taking it for immune system benefits, and no one seems to be raising a cry that it caused them anemia by chelating iron out of their body. But if you do not like taking even that much of a gamble, a more expensive solution would be to take an undenatured whey protein supplement, with your food and iron. This will provide lactoferrin that has not been altered to remove iron. Another more expensive solution is to buy the brand name Lattoglobina which was used in one of the studies.

Regarding cancer, both iron-saturated and iron-free lactoferrin may have different anticancer effects. Taking lactoferrin with both iron saturations would be ideal, as one small part of a comprehensive cancer strategy. “Lactoferrin Gold 1.8″ with each meal can accomplish this. Also taking liposomal colostrum (preferably on empty stomach) will provide a source of liposomal lactoferrin (colostrum is a whole other topic, and it does have substantial research – actually much more so than just lactoferrin – regarding its role in cancer treatment). The lactoferrin in the colostrum is presumably unmodified. I wonder if liposomal lactoferrin could go further than helping to prevent iron accumulation in tumors, and perhaps even redistribute the currently existing iron stores thus moving some iron away from the cancer?

For those with both cancer and anemia, taking Lactoferrin Gold 1.8 with each meal and with any iron supplements one may be already taking appears best. Though colostrum incidentally treats anemia through other mechanisms as well (increases circulating stem cells), the benefit of the lactoferrin portion as it pertains to anemia may be significantly reduced due to the fact that the liposomes prevent the lactoferrin from interacting with food and iron supplements in the digestive tract.

Lactoferrin…potentially extremely useful in both cancer and anemia.

[UPDATE: Today (Jan 7, 2012) we learned that a study has been recently published estimating 14,000 US deaths due to Fukushima in the first 14 weeks. This estimate does not account for cases of chronic diseases that could have been caused in addition to that. Please note that Scientific American has published a criticism of this study which quite correctly shows that the study does not prove that the increased death rate during that period was caused by radiation. Nonetheless, it cannot outright be disproven either. It seems observing the precautionary principle would not be a bad idea (i.e. "better safe than sorry").

As time passes, we will recommend a simple and affordable supplement program to address radiation protection. This will incidentally be a good idea for general health anyway. Subscribers will be notified.]

This is a thorough compilation from many different sources publishing information about supplements for radiation poisoning in the wake of the Fukushima disaster. These are only select quotes. Some of these are more likely to pan out than others. FYI, many of these supplements incidentally will also help people undergoing chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy).

In no particular order:

Modifilan

“This extract was little known in the Soviet Union for several decades due to its very specific field of application. The first time it was successfully used in volume was after the Chernobyl nuclear plant catastrophe in 1989. When used for detoxification and thyroid gland rehabilitation, Modifilan helped thousands of nuclear plant workers and people in the area who were affected by the explosion. A large group of doctors was assigned to observe the health conditions of those who took Modifilan for almost a year. The results exceeded all expectations.”

Pectasol Chelation Complex

“Studies dating to 1968 found that sea vegetables contained a polysaccharide substance, called sodium alginate, which selectively bound radioactive strontium and eliminated it from the body.”

More info

“When Chernobyl melted down, researchers found that brown seaweed greatly reduced radiation poisoning. There are two products that offer brown seaweed, also known as alginate. The first is Modifilan (available on the Internet). The other is Pectasol Chelation Complex. Both products are rich in alginates.”

Second Opinion Newsletter March 18, 2011

“In laboratory experiments, sodium alginate prepared from kelp, kombu, and other brown seaweeds off the Atlantic and pacific coasts was introduced along with strontium and calcium into rats. The reduction of radioactive particles in bone uptake, measured in the femur, reached as high as 80%, with little interference with calcium absorption.”

Spirulina

“Those negatively affected by high levels of radiation after working on cleanup efforts following the 1986 Chernobyl disaster experienced improvements in the autoregulatory functionality of their bodily organs and other systems, as well as long-term remission from overall radiation damage, after being treated with a regimen that included Spirulina.”

Chlorella

“In 1993, researchers from Jawaharlal Nehru University in India also found that Chlorella is effective at protecting against and mitigating the damage caused by both acute and chronic radioactive damage.”

“It is interesting to see that uranium-238 is being eliminated in the hair using the HMD protocol; to date there is no natural chelating agent known to mobilize and eliminate uranium-238 from body tissues. HMD is the only chelation product that I have seen that has actually been tested and shown to be effective for uranium toxicity.”

Liposomal and Nebulized Glutathione

Exposure to radiation causes a cascade of free radicals that wreak havoc on the body. Radiation decimates the body’s supply of glutathione…Please read my essay on Glutathione and Bicarbonate Nebulization. Nebulization is one of the best ways to quickly increase glutathione levels as is the use of glutathione suppositories. The main cancer risk from inhaled uranium oxide and other airborne radioactive particles would be from tiny insoluble particles lodged deep in the lungs. That’s a good reason to nebulize both glutathione and bicarbonate directly into the lungs and one must wonder why governments and health officials have not sponsored this treatment.

(Comment: Liposomal glutathione is the best form of glutathione delivery for the whole body. It may be used simultaneously with nebulized glutathione.)

(Comment: Kelp – like chlorella and spirulina – is a sea vegetable. It also contains high levels of iodine, which is used by itself as a frontline treatment for radiation poisoning.)

Echinacea

“Following the Chernobyl disaster in 1984, echinacea became the subject of intensive research in the Ukraine in a search for immunostimulants. Ukrainian researchers have found that echinacea may help the body cope with radiation exposure, said Victoriya Pochernyayeva from the Department of Clinical Pharmacology at the Ukrainian Medical and Dental Academy.”

Radiation Detox Baths

“If our food supply becomes contaminated, things will become more difficult. One of my teachers, Hazel Parcels, used a cup of chlorox in a warm bath for 20 minutes to decontaminate nuclear workers successfully. Washing our vegetables in chlorox would do the same thing. To a lesser degree a bath in a pound of baking soda and a pound of sea salt will also work for both body and food.”

“After a radioactive incident, doctors will usually rub you down with copious amounts of water to wash off any contaminants. They’ll even vigorously scrub wounds with a special chelation agent in order to prevent radioactive materials from entering your body…Though I cannot find any specific medical references verifying the treatment history, I’ve also been told that radiation detoxification baths containing specialty clays were used at Chernobyl and were found to help remove radiation from the body more quickly.”

Sodium bicarbonate

“With uranium exposure, the kidney is usually the first organ to show chemical damage. Oral doses or infusions of sodium bicarbonate help alkalinize urine, makes the uranyl ion less nephrotoxic and thereby promotes excretion of the nontoxic uranium carbonate complex.”

“In 1945, at the time of the atomic bombing of Japan, Tatsuichiro Akizuki, M.D. was Director of the Department of Internal Medicine at St. Francis’s Hospital in Nagasaki. Most patients in the hospital, located one mile from the center of the blast, survived the initial effects of the bomb, but soon after came down with symptoms of radiation sickness from the fallout that has been released.

Dr. Akizuki fed his staff and patients a strict diet of brown rice, miso and tamari soy soup, wakame, kombu and other seaweed, Hokkaido pumpkin, and sea salt and prohibited the consumption of sugar and sweets.

As a result, he saved everyone in his hospital, while many other survivors perished from radiation sickness.”

Iodine

“According to the FDA, the following doses are appropriate to take after internal contamination with (or likely internal contamination with) radioactive iodine:

Adults up through age 40 should take 130 mg. (Note: this is about 700 times the normal daily recommended dose of 150 mcg. Also note that most iodine supplements sold in health food stores are sold in microgram doses, not the milligrams you need for thryroid blockage.) People over the age of 40 should only take supplemental iodine if they are exposed to a large dose of radiation. Older adults are the least likely to develop thyroid cancer and the most likely to have allergic reactions to the iodine. Obviously, the older you are, the less you should think about taking prophylactic doses of iodine.

Women who are breastfeeding should take 130 mg. Pregnant women should take only one dose. And, I hate to say this, but nursing mothers should probably stop breastfeeding if they are exposed and use formula if available. If formula is not available, continue breastfeeding.

Children between the ages of 3 and 18 should take 65 mg. Children who weigh 150 lbs or more should take 130 mg, regardless of their age.

Infants and toddlers between the ages of 1 month and 3 years (either nursing or non-nursing) should take 32 mg.

Newborns from birth to 1 month (both nursing and non-nursing) should be given 16 mg.

Note: newborns less than 1 month old who receive more than one dose of KI are at particular risk for developing hypothyroidism. If not treated, hypothyroidism can cause brain damage. Infants who receive supplemental iodine should have their thyroid hormone levels checked and monitored by a doctor. Avoid repeat dosing.

Note: The thyroid glands of a fetus and of an infant are most at risk of injury from radioactive iodine. Young children and people with low stores of iodine in their thyroid are also at risk of thyroid injury.

A single dose of KI protects the thyroid gland for 24 hours. A one-time dose at the levels recommended above is usually all that is needed to protect the thyroid gland. In some cases, radioactive iodine might be in the environment for more than 24 hours. If that happens, local emergency management or public health officials may tell you to take one dose of KI every 24 hours for a few days. You should do this only on the advice of emergency management officials, public health officials, or your doctor. Avoid repeat dosing with KI for pregnant and breastfeeding women and newborn infants. For those individuals, evacuation may be the best alternative until levels of radioactive iodine fall.

Taking a higher dose of iodine, or taking iodine more often than recommended, does not offer more protection and can cause severe illness or death.

Also do not take iodine:

If you are already taking medication with high levels of iodine.

You are allergic to iodine.

If you have a thyroid disease that is iodine sensitive such as Grave’s disease, do not take supplemental iodine without your doctor’s permission and guidance.”

More info

“There are two products that provide ample amounts of both iodide and iodine. I’ve written a lot about Iodoral in past issues (available on my website). I think most people should take one capsule daily, just for general nutritional purposes. I do. After a few weeks, your thyroid should be sufficient in iodine and iodide, making your organs more resistant to radioactive iodine.

A good alternative is Lugol’s solution, which is the liquid form of Iodoral. Two drops of this iodine/iodide product is equivalent to one Iodoral. If you know there’s a significant risk of radioactive iodine exposure, you can double or triple the dose in the short run. Regardless of whether radiation from Japan’s nuclear facilities comes this way or not, these are great products to take on a regular basis. Both are readily available on the Internet.”

Second Opinion Newsletter March 18, 2011

“Dr. Michael B. Schachter says, “The treatment dose when a person is iodine insufficient is generally between 12.5 mg and 50 mg daily. Preliminary research indicates that if a person is iodine insufficient, it takes about three months to become iodine sufficient while ingesting a dosage of 50 mg of iodine daily and a year to achieve that while ingesting a dosage of 12.5 mg of iodine daily.”

Liposomal EDTA

“Strontium 90, a radioactive mineral, is a more difficult issue. It is chemically similar to calcium and can wind up in your bones. Since EDTA can chelate calcium, it would make sense that it would also grab strontium. And studies suggest it does. For strontium 90, consider both oral and rectal EDTA, which may offer limited protection. If you are exposed to radiation, I’d go directly to intravenous EDTA under the care of a trained chelation doctor.”

(Comment: EDTA is not well absorbed orally. Liposomal EDTA is well absorbed. Also, Detoxamin EDTA suppositories are well absorbed. When taking EDTA always supplement with large amounts of multi-minerals, as EDTA also removes those from your body.)

Humic/Fulvic Acids

“Uranium atoms may be too large for conventional chelators to grab. So I recommend a totally natural supplement from decaying organic matter instead. It’s my favorite for super heavy metals. This includes uranium, which is the heaviest naturally occurring metal. The product is Metal Magnet, which contains humic/fulvic acids. These are complex large organic molecules containing lots of carboxylic acid chemical groups. These attract metals like a giant catcher’s mitt. All metals will fit in. And it is especially good at capturing toxic metals (see Second Opinion from June and July 2006). You can find Metal Magnet on the Internet.”

“Glucan, a beta-1,3 polyglucose, was administered to mice either 1 h before or 1 h after a 650 rad exposure to cobalt-60 radiation. Compared to radiation controls, glucan-treated mice consistently exhibited a more rapid recovery of pluripotent stem cells and committed granulocyte, macrophage, and erythroid progenitor cells. This may partially explain the mechanism by which glucan also enhances survival in otherwise lethally irradiated mice.”

Samento and Noni

“In the “Lechitel Health Center” in Bulgaria, where Samento was included in an integrative treatment protocol of more than 100 patients with lung cancer, clinical data demonstrate positive results using Samento as an adjunct therapy to conventional treatment (surgery, chemo- or radiation therapy). In severe cases, the initial use of Samento for 1 to 2 months prior to starting other therapies improved patients’ clinical conditions, shrank their initial tumors, encapsulated small metastases, and made possible the consequent use of chemotherapy, radiation therapy or surgery…In conclusion, one can see that the use of Samento Extract and Noni Juice Concentrate as an adjunct therapy to conventional treatment may be beneficial for patients with lung cancer and probably other cancers. Such an integrative treatment may improve patients’ clinical conditions, enhance the immune system tumor-surveillance function and anti-tumor activities, alleviate side effects of chemo- and radiation therapy and increase their effectiveness, improve patients’ quality of life, and give them more hope for the future.”

“In response to the 1986 Chernobyl and Three Mile Island nuclear disaster, Clinoptilolite zeolite was effectively used for purposes of clean-up for both land and water. In Chernobyl, over 500,000 tons of zeolite were dropped into the reactor to absorb radioactive metals. Cattle were fed zeolite to effectively keep radioactive ions out of the milk. Contaminated soil was treated with zeolite to help return it to near zero levels of Cesium or Strontium. Zeolite was used to clean up water surrounding Three Mile Island following the nuclear power plant partial nuclear melt-down.”

Metallothienein Protagonists

“The body’s natural chelating agent is called metallothienein (MT). This protein binds to toxic metals for delivery to the liver or kidneys for excretion. MT also prevents toxic metals from reacting with other molecules in the body, thereby preventing toxicity. The body’s production of MT can be encouraged by taking certain botanical and nutritional supplements. Specifically, Humulus (hops) and Andrographis, as well as zinc, will all help regulate the genes associated with MT production (Metalloclear, Metagenics).”

Cold fusion has been independently verified by at least 20 labs

Yes it has. People may be more wary of nuclear power after this incident. It would be nice if more people started talking about cold fusion. You can watch the documentary “Heavy Watergate” and see some companies that have actually publicly demonstrated working power cells based on cold fusion.

So how many centuries will it take before people get smart enough to strangle their selfish government leaders into plowing forward with cold fusion research? Who knows. Even a tiny chance that such a technology could revolutionize society and solve so many global problems should be shouted from the rooftops. Alas, our government and media wouldn’t have it.

There are certainly people who are trying hard to eliminate colloidal silver from the market. Here are a few stories for your amusement. I am certain that many more can be found:

In Europe, it is already illegal to market colloidal silver as a dietary supplement.

There are reports of harassment by the FDA involving people who simply sell 9-volt batteries or silver wire (components that could potentially be used to make colloidal silver at home). Are these items that are unsafe? And since when are they classified as either food or drugs?

The story of the owner of Utopia Silver Supplements (Ben Taylor) is very intriguing. The following is an excerpt from an interview with Ben:

“Ben: I’m not naïve enough to think that they have forgotten all about me; they could come after me tomorrow with a SWAT team. And one point they did come out with armed state troopers.

Kira: They did? How do you defend yourself against that?

Ben: What they did was send out a TDH (Texas Department of Health) inspector and an investigator, and two armed state troopers. They demanded that I turn over all of my vendor and customer records. The investigator showed me what he called a warrant which I read it and then demanded to see the affidavit (which was not attached as referenced in the warrant) which is required to get a judge’s signature. The TDH investigator got very aggressive and forceful with me and threatened to arrest me if I didn’t start getting the records together for him to take. He told me if I wanted to see any affidavits, I could go to Austin (the State capital) and see them. So what I did was get on the phone and called a retired lawyer and now rancher friend. He told me to immediately call the Sheriff, which I started doing. Well, when I started calling the sheriff, the two state troopers and the TDH officers hightailed it out of my business like jackrabbits in a brush fire.

…

Kira: So what do you think is the purpose of all this? Was it to stop you from publishing your testimonials or was it to have you give up your company?

Ben: I believe they wanted to shut the company down because the attorney general told me in one of the meetings with the judge that this was a test case for the country. He had previously told another of the ‘defendants’ that their intent was to shut down Utopia Silver.”

Was this even a legal operation? And a test case for the entire country!? Who put these people up to this?

JelloMedicine discusses the potential regulation of colloidal silver by the EPA:

“Many readers are no doubt flabbergasted by the following irony: While the FDA has attempted to discredit silver as being completely ineffective, the EPA is considering regulation due to the position that silver is far too effective. Well, which is it?

In May of 2008 the International Center for Technology Assessment (ICTA) and the Center for Food Safety (CFS) filed a legal petition with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on behalf of a coalition of public interest organizations. The petition calls for the EPA to regulate nano-silver products as pesticides. The legal petition requests that the EPA assess the safety of these materials to the public and the environment before permitting them to be marketed.”

A good way to wipe out all colloidal silver retailers at once?

There is no evidence that silver nanoparticles are harmful to the environment. And this is really an insult as long as the BP oil spill is being treated so lightly. Colloidal scientist George Maass writes the following:

“The second question concerns the effect of silver nanoparticles on the environment. Anyone who has tried to make nano particles knows that nanoparticles do not remain “nanosize” for very long when they come in contact with normal environmental samples, such as soil and water, but they agglomerate to form much larger, much less biologically effective, silver particles which are non-toxic, non-ionic and have no history of being harmful to the environment or aquatic life. Even the researchers who are questioning the harmfulness agree that the larger particles are simply harmless silver metal.

For example, in my paper, Nanoparticles – No Threat to the Environment it was shown that an 80% reduction in surface area, and therefore high reduction in biological activity, can take place in just minutes. Furthermore, the zeta potential was in the wrong region to support colloidal stability.

These facts were submitted as a paper to “Environmental Science and Technology”. This journal, which is already publishing counter opinions, dismissed the paper in record time without contacting any of the referees whose names were suggested for the paper. It is clear the this journal is not interested in getting at the truth, but in supporting the positions of big Pharma, whose financial interests are in jeopardy because of the growing trend toward natural [censored word], such as colloidal silver.”

In his paper, he writes:

“On the other hand, it is not surprising that certain research institutions are being encouraged, and perhaps even funded, to conduct research that implies toxicity for colloidal silver.”

Research funded to prove that silver nanoparticle are dangerous to the environment? When there is no evidence of it? When in fact the evidence shows just the opposite? And such research being ignored?

In this story, the FDA and the FTC combined forces to send a warning to an organization that doesn’t sell any products? A result of incompetence or of targeted suppression of information?:

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION
BUREAU OF CONSUMER PROTECTION
WASHINGTON, D.C. 20580

VIA ELECTRONIC MAIL

RE: NOTICE OF POTENTIAL ILLEGAL MARKETING OF PRODUCTS OR THERAPIES TO PREVENT, TREAT, OR CURE ANTHRAX, SMALLPOX, OR OTHER DISEASES OR HEALTH HAZARDS: IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED

DATE: November 20, 2001

Your Web Site claims that a product or therapy you sell is effective in the treatment or cure of anthrax, smallpox, or another disease or health hazard that may be associated with recent reports about threats of terrorism. We are aware of no scientific basis for such claims. Without competent and reliable scientific evidence to substantiate these claims, the claims are illegal under the Federal Trade Commission Act and must be discontinued immediately. Violations of the FTC Act may result in legal action in the form of Federal District Court Injunction or Administrative Order. An order also may require that you pay money back to consumers.

In addition, if you are marketing a dietary supplement, be aware that FDA prohibits any labeling claims that a dietary supplement is intended to prevent, mitigate, treat, or cure anthrax, smallpox, or any other disease under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act as amended by the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994. Such claims would require that the product be submitted for FDA approval as a new drug. Also, representatives of the dietary supplement industry have issued a joint news release stating that dietary supplements should not be promoted as a remedy or cure for anthrax and that no dietary supplements have been proven to treat or prevent anthrax. The joint statement of the American Herbal Products Association, Consumer Healthcare Products Association, Council for Responsible Nutrition, National Nutritional Foods Association, and Utah Natural Products Alliance is attached.

FTC investigators have copied and preserved the pages of your online promotional materials and will be revisiting your Web site soon. If your Web site includes any express of implied claim about the benefit of any product or therapy for anthrax, smallpox, or other disease that is not substantiated by competent and reliable scientific evidence, or is otherwise deceptive or fraudulent, you must discontinue these claims immediately.”

Ebay claims to have been told by the FDA that colloidal silver is proven to be unsafe. If true, this is an outright lie, as the FDA only has the right to say the colloidal silver has not been proven to be safe. As a result of this, Ebay has given into pressure to ban all sales of colloidal silver from their site:

Dear [ name removed ],
eBay appreciates the fact that you chose to list your auction(s):

[ auction number removed ] Colloidal Silver with us. However, it has been brought to our attention that the FDA has found colloidal silver products to be unsafe…Based on this information, eBay has determined that the sale of items containing colloidal silver will no longer be allowed on our site. Therefore, these auctions have been ended and all associated fees have been refunded to your account.

Questionable tactics for removing colloidal silver from the market?

The Pharmaceutical industry engages in outright deception to convince people that colloidal silver will cause them argyria. Silver-colloids comments:

“The Blue Man story became a major media disinformation event which was produced by a public relations firm and paid for by a pharmaceutical interest. The purpose of this campaign was to scare the public away from using colloidal silver products. The tactic was to claim that the Blue Man’s condition was caused by his use of colloidal silver thus implying that anyone who uses colloidal silver would suffer a similar fate. The entire story as presented is a study in fraudulent misrepresentation…I really don’t think I could have come up with a better protocol to turn blue.”

This intentional disinformation is just ridiculous when you analyze carefully the safety profile of colloidal silver. I have spent roughly 20 pages in my book establishing the safety of the most important class of colloidal silver products.

What is going on here?
